Exotic fruits often look daunting, especially when money is being spent. The mind is left to wonder about its looks, smells, tastes, and textures. Along with the aesthetics, there are also a massive amount of benefits that tropical, unknown fruits tend to have. Mangosteen, considered the mother of fruits, is packed full of tropical flavors and extensive nutritional profit.

Mangosteen originates in Asia, the home of things that westerners often consider bizarre. Often the mangosteen fruit is grown in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Other Asian countries, however, may also grow them–anywhere with a hot, humid climate. Because of these more exotic origins, however, mangosteen cannot legally be imported to continental United States due to the potential for dangerous insects catching a ride on the fruits. Those in the US can buy it as juice or dried fruit online.

The mangosteen trees themselves are large, bushy pyramid shapes. Small, leathery leaves sprout from branches, and the tree is covered in a dark brown flaky bark. Beneath the bark is a yellow gummy layer with a texture similar to latex. At its full height, which takes a while to grow, it reaches around 20 to 80 feet tall. The fruits have a dark purple rind about 1/4 of an inch thick. This rind is cracked open by twisting the fruit in half. Inside, the flesh looks like a little clove of garlic. The flesh has four to eight translucent white segments that taste sweet and a little tart. Many call it indescribable but the best flavored fruit grown. Altogether, the mangosteen tree is nothing that can be found in America, but certainly sought after by those who know about it.

Altogether, the mangosteen tree is nothing that can be found in America, but certainly sought after by those who know about it.

Not only does the mangosteen come from foreign land, look completely different, and taste great, there are massive benefits to be reaped. There are two naturally found types of compounds in the fruit that receive little tribute but pay forward brilliant benefits. The first of these is called tannins. Tannins act as an anti-inflammatory to reduce swelling and an anti-septic to kill bacteria. They also help reduce diarrhea, irritable bowels, and bad skin conditions. Tannins can also be found in teas and cranberries.

The second primary health benefit is also a biological compound called a xanthone. Xanthones are not only an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-bacterial, but they also fight cancer cells. There have been studies done to test the affects of the xanthones found in the mangosteen, and it was found that they inhibit the speed of cancer cells. Taken on a regular basis, mangosteen could potentially add to saving a life.

Mangosteen, even with a bit more information, retains its mysterious and exotic origins. However, just because it's mysterious doesn't put it out of reach. Anyone could get their hands on mangosteen just by taking a glance at an internet search, or through gojiberries.us. Taken as juice, dried fruit, or freshly eaten outside of the United States, one would be in for a treat if given a mangosteen.

Has your mother told you finish your milk when you were younger? Or, maybe you have heard the phrase, "Milk does a body good". The reasoning behind this, is that Milk has a high source of Calcium. Calcium is needed by your body to build strong bones and teeth. Calcium is also used for controlling your blood pressure and the healthy maintenance of your heart's beat.

Calcium is an essential supplement to your body's daily requirements. Most of your body's calcium is stored in your bones, acting like a calcium storage bank. Over time your body adds and removes calcium as needed. It is essential to make sure your body has enough calcium stored into your system. According to the department of health and the Food and Nutrition Board (FNB), this is the amount of calcium your body needs to maintain an adequate calcium retention and bone mass:

Age / Calcium Intake (mg)
Birth to 6 months: 210mg
7-12 Months: 270mg
1-3 Years: 500mg
4-8 years: 800mg
9-13 Years: 1300mg
14-18 Years: 1300mg
19-50 years: 1000mg
50+ Years: 1200mg

As we get older our body produces less calcium and we need to rely on outside sources of calcium supplements. It is important to look at your calcium intake. Next time you break a bone, ask yourself if you have enough calcium in your system.

Taking Glucosamine and Chrondroitin will provide the building blocks for joint repair and health. As we get older the cartilage within our joints get worn and there isn't enough essential nutrients of Glucosamine-Chrondrotin to rebuild itself.
Considering there were initially over 60 minerals present, this is why our Nation’s soil bank is so depleted. Plants can absorb vitamins through the air, but minerals solely by means of water and the soil.

Linus Pauling, world renowned nutritionist, once stated that virtually illness, sickness and disease is usually attributed to the lacking of one or more minerals in one’s diet.Virtually nothing should be more important to the individual than protecting the health in any economy. When times are in question, we certainly don’t need to accumulate medical or hospital bills on top of all else. Liquid nutritional supplements are usually assimilated in the body at about a 95% absorption rate, while pills and capsules at about a 20%-35% rate. If you wish a longer and healthier life, consider the finest liquid nutritional supplements.
